LOS ANGELES, March 9, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SEIU United Long Term Care Workers (ULTCW) would like to congratulate all of the winning ULTCW supported candidates in Tuesday's City of Los Angeles Primary Election. Paul Krekorian, Paul Wesson, and Jose Huizar won their races for seats on the Los Angeles City Council. All of the ULTCW supported candidates to the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) school board won, including Marguerite LaMotte, Luis Sanchez and Richard Vladovic. In addition, Mona Field, Steven Veres, Scott Svonkin and Miguel Santiago won seats to the Los Angeles Community College District.
"We are proud of the many ULTCW supported candidates that won in yesterday's election. We know that all of the candidates will work hard to keep our streets safe, improve our education system and represent the interests of the many hard working men and women in this great city," said Laphonza Butler, President, ULTCW.
Luis Sanchez won the LAUSD District 5 race with 45 percent of the vote. Because he did not receive 50 percent of the vote, he will participate in a runoff in the Los Angeles City General Municipal Election, which will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2011.
Mr. Sanchez says he looks forward to working with ULTCW for the general election.
"I am grateful for ULTCW's support. Their hard work on my behalf helped to ensure
my first place finish. Together, we can work to make Los Angeles schools a better place for our city's kids," he said.
