SelenBio™️ Marks One Year Since Launch of FDA-Approved Dental Breakthrough

AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 19, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- It's been one year since SelenBio, Inc.™️, a Texas-based biotechnology company, launched DenteShield™️, a dental product proven to inhibit bacteria colonization responsible for plaque, decay, white spot lesions and gingival inflammation.

FDA-approved, clinical tests indicate that using DenteShield products prevent visual signs of demineralization. The product is available directly through dental professionals and national distributor Patterson Dental as well as regional distributor Midwest Dental, serving both Texas and Oklahoma.

The basic compound of SELDOX®️ stays put, Reid explained, which means the DenteShield sealant will not brush off over time. In fact, results from a study simulating two full years of regular tooth-brushing showed less than a 30 percent average loss over time.

So how does it work? Selenium.

"This element is common in the body and when incorporated into an organic molecule, it can take an electron from sulfur and give it to oxygen, generating superoxide. It is this 'superoxide radical' that kills bacteria on contact," Reid explained.

Additionally, selenium is inexpensive. In years' past, silver and copper have been used in similar ways to kill bacteria – but the cost is much more, and the specificity is not nearly the same as that of selenium. SelenBio trademarked the selenium product as SELDOX with great success one year ago.

With SELDOX technology, DenteShield currently has three products on the market – all sealants applied to the tooth surface and hardening into a clear and undetectable protective layer. In just one year, the sealant products – Enamel Surface Sealant, Primer, and Pit and Fissure Sealant – have proven successful in dental offices and for consumers across the country.

But this is only the beginning. SelenBio Chief Executive Officer Kenny Gallagher said additional DenteShield products – also using SELDOX technology – are on the way, and the company also plans to launch a secondary product for veterinarians in the very near future.
