SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI) introduces its next generation high-performance eye tracking platform for in and out of lab studies at the Society for Neuroscience 2014 meeting (SfN 2014) in Washington D.C., USA. The SMI RED250mobile eye tracking system is perfectly suited for studies on neurodegenerative disorders and other demanding cognitive research. The lightest of its kind with 250Hz sampling rate allows saccadic grade eye tracking also outside of the lab in the environment familiar to participants. On the same next generation platform, SMI also introduces a "smaller brother" - the SMI REDn Scientific. With extra large tolerance for head movements it is designed for instant fixation-based studies in schools, hospitals or kindergartens.

The new SMI eye tracker family is based on next-generation algorithms for an unprecedented level of robustness and precision with high tolerance for vision correction. The hardware is fully compatible with SMI's Experiment Suite Scientific software for experiment design, recording and analysis. It supports key research paradigms, such as Visual Paired Comparison, Visual World and Preferential Looking and provides higher efficiency and less manual work through the entire workflow.

SMI's new generation of contact-free eye tracking systems is ready for integration with leading solutions of key partners in scientific instruments. Both the SMI RED250mobile and the SMI REDn Scientific support TTL triggers for easy interfacing with biometric data collection systems. At SfN 2014, SMI presents integrations with partners such as BIOPAC Systems, Brain Products and Psychology Software Tools.

SMI also moves world class eye tracking to VR: At the SMI booth 2906 at SfN 2014, SMI shows its new Eye Tracking integration into a Virtual Reality HMD. Just in time for the show, SMI launches the world's first Eye Tracking solution for the Oculus Rift DK2 HMD. Adding SMI's leading mobile eye tracking technology raises the value of HMD based studies and applications, e.g. in training, performance assessment, engineering and visual orientation. The package comes with an SDK for real-time streaming of eye and gaze data and support for popular VR engines, e.g. Unity and Vizard. A special demo on the WorldViz/Biopac booth will show the Eye Tracking in the Oculus Rift DK2 using an environment created with the WorldViz Vizard engine.
