SGS Becomes First One-Site CDMA, GSM & WCDMA Testing Service with Expansion of Wireless Test Lab in San Diego

Eliminates Overseas Test Delays for U.S. Device Manufacturers & Service Providers

Dec 08, 2010, 09:13 ET from SGS Consumer Testing Services

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 8, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- SGS Consumer Testing Services today announced the expansion of its CDMA wireless testing lab in San Diego with the addition of testing capabilities for handsets and smartphones designed to run on GSM and WCDMA networks. When the new testing services launch in Q2 2011, SGS will have the first lab to provide certification test coverage for all cellular technologies under one roof.

The expanded testing services will speed time to market for new GSM and WCDMA handsets and smartphones by eliminating the need for device manufacturers and wireless service providers to send new device models to multiple labs for certification.  This will also enable our current customers to enjoy the same testing services benefits for GSM/WCDMA as they do with CDMA and EVDO.

The San Diego facility is being expanded by 40% to accommodate the new test services. PTCRB and GCF certification testing will be available for GSM and WCDMA devices. The lab will also continue to offer CDMA/EVDO test programs for CTIA CDMA Certification, Safe For Network, CDG Stage 1 and CCF Certification.  LTE capability will be added in Q1 2011 to complete the portfolio for the San Diego laboratory.

The San Diego lab has offered CDMA certification testing services since 1998. SGS also offers wireless antenna performance, applications and acoustics testing for all cellular technologies at the company's Midwest facility.  WiFi and Bluetooth testing will continue to be offered in our wireless labs located in Korea, Taiwan and Japan.

"As we move towards the 4th generation technology that is expected to unify previous competing technologies, there will still be a need to support backwards compatibility testing of all of those 2G and 3G technologies.  This move is a solid step in creating a laboratory to handle all major cellular technologies in one location," said Michael Spitzer, SGS Global Wireless Manager. "We can now cover the certification testing requirements of all major mobile carriers as well as wireless manufacturers and design houses from a single U.S.-based facility."
