SHAFA FORUM invites art masters over 80 years old to discuss art education in Shanghai
SHANGHAI, June 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- On the morning of June 23, 2017, SHAFA FORUM, an academic brand created by Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, kicked off at the Lecture Hall of Shanghai University Library, with Cao Kefan, one of the most respected TV presenters in China, presiding. Ten luminaries considered masters in their respective specializations from across the art education sector: Jin Shangyi, Quan Shanshi, Zhan Jianjun, Shao Dazhen, Chang Shana and Chen Jialing each gave a live presentation while Fang Zengxian, Qi Kang, Chen Peiqiu and Chen Hanmin, as they were unable to attend in person, each sent in a video of their presentation specifically for the event. Shanghai University President Jin Donghan, more than 600 faculty members, staff and students from Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts and professors and leaders from other art academies in Shanghai took part in the event.
For this opening ceremony of the SHAFA FORUM, the organizers invited the 10 above-named masters to share their respective opinions of modern art education in China from different perspectives while two forums in conjunction with the main event focused on two themes: "Origin and Now: Reflection upon China's Art Education over the 100 Years" and "Academies and Contribution: the Development of China's Art Education over the 100 Years". The presentations delivered by the ten masters gave the attendees an opportunity to obtain a better understanding of the previous, current and future development of China's art education so as to give the tools and impetus to think about a contemporary model for art education in China and the related social responsibility.
Feng Yuan, the newly appointed President of Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts who is also the Vice Chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Vice Chairman of the China Artists Association said that "with a deep cultural heritage and rosy prospects for the future, the Academy should raise the bar in terms of its responsibility." In response, the Academy creatively established SHAFA FORUM, the long-term academic event. The FORUM aims to invite leading experts in the art world, from abroad as well as from within China, to discuss and exchange opinions in an open-minded environment in a move to promote the development of contemporary art in China. The SHAFA FORUM will also foster the Academy's new approach to teaching and will be made available to all art students, professors, artists and experts from different fields, with the aim of creating a high-level, wide-ranging, multi-disciplinary platform for exchanges of cutting edge academic information and discussions of art education models. The ultimate goal is to raise the overall quality of what is being taught and how it is being taught in Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts to a new level.
