Shelby GT-H 'Rent-A-Racer' Returns to Hertz this Summer
ESTERO, Fla., May 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Driving will be a little more exciting this summer for those who get behind the wheel of the new 2016 Hertz Shelby GT-H Mustang, which will be available starting Memorial Day weekend. A limited number of Ford Shelby GT-H vehicles will be available exclusively through the Hertz Adrenaline Collection for renters flying into 17 select U.S. airport locations in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Washington.
Hertz first introduced a custom Shelby Mustang as part of its "Rent-A-Racer" program in 1966, when Hertz and Carroll Shelby saw an opportunity to give everyday drivers and car enthusiasts a special experience -- the chance to get behind the wheel of a high-performance vehicle. That year, the 1966 Shelby GT350-H, now a favorite of car collectors, was introduced. Ford supplied the Mustangs with V8 engines and mostly automatic transmissions, Shelby added extra performance and style and Hertz gave customers access to a unique driving experience. As a tribute to the original Rent-A-Racer, the companies teamed up in 2006 to produce the 40th anniversary edition Shelby GT-H. Today, these models are among the most sought-after collector cars in the world.

The 2016 Ford Shelby GT-H will be available for rent at 17 select airport locations through the Hertz Adrenaline Collection in the following U.S. cities: Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Fla., Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, Orlando, Seattle, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Calif., and Phoenix.
Added Performance
The Ford Shelby GT-H has a powerful 5.0L V8 engine with 435 horsepower and 400 lb.-foot of torque, equipped with a Ford Performance cat-back touring exhaust with chrome tips for a deeper muscle car sound. To put all of the horsepower to the ground, the Ford Shelby GT-H also comes with the Ford Racing Handling Pack, including special-tuned dampers, lowering springs, sway bars and a staggered wheel kit. The Shelby GT-H rides on 19-inch aluminum wheels wearing high-performance Michelin rubber.
Like the first two generation cars, the 2016 Shelby GT-H is outfitted in the classic black and gold livery. Each Shelby GT-H wears black exterior paint, set off with gold racing stripes, a hallmark of Hertz vehicles dating back to the 1920s. Shelby's traditional "Le Mans" dual racing stripes are combined with a set of rocker stripes that include special "Shelby GT-H" nomenclature. Each car also wears a Hertz Edition emblem on the front fenders, and feature Hertz Shelby GT-H sill plates and a numbered badge.
To hint at the 5.0 liter V8 engine's capabilities, the Ford Shelby GT-H is fitted with a unique Shelby-designed vented hood, carbon fiber front splitter and rear spoiler. Special badges appear in the front grille, rear faux gas cap and trunk lid. Inside, Shelby GT-H logos are on the head restraint, sill plates and floor mats.
