DETROIT, Oct. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Shinola, known for its Detroit-built watches, bicycles and journals, announce today that Makers Monday will now expand outside of the United States to include the UK.
Originally launched in 2013, Makers Monday encouraged consumers to pledge to buy American on the Monday after Thanksgiving and to share that pledge and their American-made purchase on their social networks.
In its third year, the Makers Monday project simply asks people to pledge to "buy maker" on Monday, November 30.
Shinola designed the Makers Monday website to act as a curated hub which spotlights makers in the United States. In addition to encouraging consumers to buy maker, the site provides a place for makers themselves to sign up for inclusion. Today, Shinola is taking the Makers Monday Campaign global, beginning with the UK.
Shinola also partnered with Maker.Me, the invite-only site that allows makers to display their craft and connect with other makers and manufacturers. The Makers Monday homepage (www.makersmonday.com) will launch today and feature selected profiles as a database for consumers to find participating makers whose businesses manufacture over 50% of their high-quality goods locally.
To help drive the UK launch, Shinola has enlisted the help of Monocle Magazine, best known for it's coverage of current affairs, business, culture, design and more, Monocle's readers represent a globally minded audience of individuals who are hungry for opportunities and experiences beyond their national borders. The partnership with Shinola for Makers Monday includes a micro-site on Monocle.com that will feature in-depth profiles of British makers.
Shinola recognizes the growing community of makers around the world who we join in the pursuit of well-made, thoughtful products with an emphasis on design and craft.
The Makers Monday Campaign will culminate on November 30th, with a worldwide celebration in each of Shinola's 10 stores to celebrate local makers and encourage them to connect with others in their respective communities.
