The electric security fence company's history began with a theft: In 1991, company founder Bill Mullis discovered his guard dog business had been robbed. To protect it, Mullis conceived and designed the first solar-powered electric security fence. The fence was so effective at deterring theft from his yard that it became popular with his existing guard dog customers and replaced the dogs. Electric Guard Dog was born.

In 2007, the business was purchased by Ulysses Management, a New York based family office, with the intent to invest in the infrastructure of the business to serve its customer base. Additional investments were made to support faster growth including hiring Jack DeMao as CEO. Under DeMao's helmsman-ship, Electric Guard Dog has rapidly accelerated growth for the market leading electric security fence company nationwide.
