Simwood Announces High Quality, Secure Voice and Message Apps
BRISTOL, England, March 5, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- UK and US carrier Simwood today demonstrated a number of exciting voice and message apps which address many traditional issues.
At the company's annual event (SimCon) in 2019, Simwood initially demonstrated VoxAP, its application framework. Twelve months on, VoxAP has had significant investment and has today been released as a core framework upon which other apps can be built - VoxAP Core. Initially, this is for in-house apps, but the same framework can be used for third party apps too.
Traditional voice apps tend to consume lots of battery power, suffer with quality issues and provisioning weaknesses and those which have partly addressed this have raised privacy concerns. VoxAP Core uses WebRTC to communicate with phone devices, avoiding the need for repeated 'calls home' that eat battery, and benefiting from security baked in. It also uses modern codecs (the way voice is transmitted) that Simwood is unique amongst carriers in supporting. These give very high quality (studio quality potentially) audio over good networks, but dynamically adapt for poor quality networks. Coupled with a comprehensive backend on the owned Simwood network, apps get the best of both worlds - modern security and efficiency and direct access to the public phone network.
VoxAP Core is not a product in itself but the underlying code for products. At SimCon today Simwood announced two initial apps using this technology. The first is a client for Simwood Partner's hosted PBX offering which can be fully white-labelled by their customers - delivering end-users an app in the providers' own name. The second is a client for the newly announced Simwood Partner Residential service, which enables alternative networks to give a voice alternative to their full-fibre customers that lets them use phone service anywhere.
