Covering a massive space of about 200 tennis courts, the four-day fine jewellery fair presents over 100,000 pieces of fine jewellery in ten product-themed and country pavilions. Visitors will be able to access at one location the best of international fine jewellery by manufacturers and wholesalers from Austria, Belgium, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, USA, Singapore and other parts of the world.
Exclusively endorsed by the Singapore Jewellers Association (SJA) and the Diamond Exchange of Singapore (DES), the fair sets itself apart in the regional marketplace as the annual affair to wait and save for. Largest matched pair of rare fancy vivid yellow diamonds traced from the argyle mine
Polished from a gem-quality 15.40 carat rough diamond mined in 2012, the two accompanying diamonds are the largest matched pair of fancy vivid yellow diamonds from Australia's argyle mine. Given the approaching end of the mine's life, this matched pair is a significant legacy of the unique fancy coloured diamonds produced in this remote part of the world. Aptly named "Golden Light of Argyle" to reflect their vivid brilliance, their provenance, and their place in the history of remarkable diamonds.
Largest country pavilions to-date
Riding on the success of the first two shows, some of the country pavilions at the fair have expanded in size to offer even greater variety to visitors. For instance, this year will feature more than 24 Japanese exhibitors occupying approximately 270 square metres of exhibition space - a 50% increase over the previous edition.
Known for their meticulous craftsmanship and fine precision, the Japanese jewellers will not only put up popular Japanese corals and pearls at the fair, but will also introduce visitors to "re-styled jewellery", a thriving trend in Japan gaining traction as a significant market segment. Visitors can get in touch with this growing global trend, whereby jewellers remodel and remake pre-loved jewellery pieces into entirely new pieces for resale.
Opening day highlights
A total of 22 jewellery businesses in Singapore will receive the CaseTrust-SJA Accreditation certificates at the fair - the first batch to be certified since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) and the Singapore Jewellers Association (SJA) in February 2015 to enhance the jewellery industry's business practices in Singapore. These jewellers are endorsed for stringent adherence to clear policies for refunds, practice of providing detailed cost breakdown and knowledgeable sales staff, amongst other criteria. Themed Celebrating SG50, this year's Singapore Jewellery Design Award (SJDA), comprising of three categories, will be presented to the winners on the first day of the show. For list of winners and their winning designs, please refer to Annex B.
As the supporting event for SJDA, the Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair 2015 will showcase a selection of outstanding designs from the competition. Winners are also given the exceptional opportunity to have their designs manufactured into jewellery pieces that will be sold under established brands in the market today.
For the first time, the Diamond Exchange of Singapore will be hosting a charity dinner on 22nd October 2015 at the Marina Bay Sands in conjunction with Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair 2015. Titled "Diamonds in the Rough", the event celebrates SG50 and comprises a charity auction whereby proceeds will go towards the Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT) Children's Fund.
SG50 Exhibition: fascinating showcase of Singapore's jewellery heritage
For the first time at the fair, the SG50 Exhibition will feature Singapore's heritage in the arts of fine jewellery making. In commemoration of the nation's Golden Jubilee, the exhibition will give visitors a rare peek into Singapore's rich and fascinating history in jewellery through a unique showcase of vintage jewellery and rare antiques, which might not been seen by the public.
Gain practical tips and advice in jewellery in 30 minutes
In collaboration with reputable education partners - the Euromonitor International, Gemological Institute of America Laboratory Bangkok (GIA) and the Jewellery Design and Management International School (JDMIS), the fair will present a series of seminars conducted by a panel of reputable speakers. Touching on topics such as "Fluorescence in Diamonds" and "The Connoisseurs' Guide to Appreciating Jewellery", these seminars will leverage on the speakers' insights and expertise to cultivate a deeper understanding and appreciation for jewellery amongst aficionados and new collectors alike.
