Sino-Forest Chairman & CEO Appointed as Vice President of China National Forestry Industry Federation
TORONTO, Feb. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Mr. Allen Chan, Chairman & CEO of Sino-Forest Corporation (TSX:TRE), a leading commercial forest plantation operator in China, was appointed as a Vice President of the China National Forestry Industry Federation (formerly China National Forestry Industry Association; "CNFIF") in December 2010.
The CNFIF is chaired by Mr. Jia Zhibang, Director of the State Forestry Administration. CNFIF is a nationwide non-profit, voluntary organization. It has appointed renowned foresters, academics and industry professionals, who have contributed to the prosperity and development of the forestry sector in China, as the members of its committee. The mission of the CNFIF is to advocate for responsible forest management in China. It is committed to forestry research and development and to assisting the development and implementation of related regulations, as well as promoting sustainable forestry development in China.
Delighted to be appointed as a Vice President of the CNFIF, Mr. Allen Chan said, "Personally, and on behalf of Sino-Forest, I am very honored to receive such a designation from the CNFIF, especially since Sino-Forest is the only foreign commercial plantation operator in China to have a member as a Vice President. This signifies that Sino-Forest shares the CNFIF philosophy about the importance of sustainable forestry development in China. We strive to support the CNFIF and the forestry sector at large by spearheading the development of sustainable plantations and accelerating the conversion of low-yield plantations into fast-growing, high-yielding ones. Sino-Forest will continue to work with government entities in efforts to improve the productivity and economics of Chinese plantations and downstream processing technologies and expertise. We wish to increase China's forest coverage and wood supply independence through our scientific silviculture research and development."
A year ago, Mr. Chan was presented a "2009 China Forestry Persons of the Year" Award by the China National Forestry Industry Association and the China National Forest Products Industry Association in January 2010. The award was presented to 31 foresters, academics and industry professionals in China.
