Smith System announces "Driving Distracted"

ARLINGTON, Texas, April 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Distracted driving is deadly, on the rise, and preventable. Smith System, the world leader in advanced driver training, has launched new e-learning, DVD and pay-per-view training content to help companies raise awareness and tackle this growing problem.

"Driving Distracted" demonstrates how distractions can have catastrophic consequences by dramatically increasing the risk of collisions. Providing knowledge, skills and countermeasures, the presentation helps learners understand how to stay safe and protect the safety of others. This important launch coincides with National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), every day, more than eight people are killed and more than 1,000 are injured in crashes reported to involve distracted driving (which includes activities such as cell phone use, altering music and navigation systems, engaging with passengers, and eating). NHTSA confirms that the problem is getting worse - 2015 marked the largest increase in traffic fatalities since 1966 and the first half of 2016 revealed a similar increase.

"Driving Distracted" includes content that raises awareness about four categories of distractions, provides information to help drivers develop habits to improve their ability to pay attention while driving, and relates the Smith System 5Keys® which help protect drivers from other distracted drivers. Reinforcing the importance of this content, Smith System requires e-learners to achieve a score of 100% on the final quiz in order to pass the Distracted Driving Course.
