SNC-Lavalin announces retirement of Feroz Ashraf and appointment of Dale Clarke as EVP Mining and Metallurgy

MONTREAL, Sept. 7, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Ian Bourne, Vice-Chairman and Interim CEO, announces that Feroz Ashraf, Executive Vice-President and head of Global Mining and Metallurgy (M&M), has decided to retire and Dale Clarke has been named his successor. Effective October 1, 2012, Mr. Clarke will succeed Mr. Ashraf, who is retiring after 33 years of service in the company.

An engineer and graduate of Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Mr. Clarke has more than 25 years of international experience in engineering, project management and corporate leadership, particularly in Canada, Africa and Latin America.

Mr. Clarke, who is 47 years old, has been very active in a number of signature projects for this business unit, including Ambatovy and the BHP Billiton Hub. He has led the award and execution of many of the Company's key mandates in Panama, Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, Peru, Madagascar and Tanzania, among others, including various Canadian locations. During his past 16 years with the Company, Mr. Clarke has progressed through project and construction management roles to corporate management within the organization and has demonstrated significant expertise in project execution and business operations.

In his new role of EVP and member of the Office of the President, Mr. Clarke's experience in directing large-scale international mining projects will be applied to the numerous projects underway in this sector and in the service of some of the world's largest mining firms, who are the Company's longstanding clients.

Feroz Ashraf, who has held this position since 2009 and has been with SNC-Lavalin since 1979, has announced his retirement, effective December 31, 2012. During this transition period, he will continue to serve as a resource to the President and CEO and will also provide corporate-wide services as a special advisor, given his extensive and long-standing knowledge of the mining business and the Company.
