Society of Exploration Geophysicists Names New Executive Director

TULSA, Okla., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Steven H. Davis has been named Executive Director of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), the world's largest professional organization dedicated to advancing applied geophysics.

Davis officially joined SEG on August 1. He succeeds Mary Fleming who retired on June 30 after serving as SEG's Executive Director since 2002.

Davis has spent his entire career with professional, science-based associations. He most recently was Executive Director of the American Industrial Hygiene Association in Fairfax, Virginia. He had been on the AIHA staff since 1998, as either Executive Director or Deputy Executive Director. He had previously been Executive Director of the American Horticultural Therapy Association in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and was the Director of Horticulture with that organization and with the American Horticultural Society of Mt. Vernon, Virginia.

Davis earned bachelor's (1974) and master's (1976) degrees in biology from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. His undergraduate studies were interrupted by an enlistment in the U.S. Navy which began in 1968. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam, and received the Navy & Marine Corps Medal for heroism.

Davis will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities of SEG's 75-member permanent staff which works in the Society's business office in Tulsa. SEG, founded in 1930, now has more than 30,000 members in 138 countries. SEG's Annual International Meeting has long been unrivaled as the world's premiere showplace for state-of-the-art geophysical instrumentation and technology.
