SOCMA Pledges to Work with New Administration to Advance Issues Important to Specialty Chemical Industry

WASHINGTON, Nov. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As we embark on the next chapter in American history, the Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA) pledges to work with the new Congress and Presidential Administration to ensure they understand the issues crucial to the success and competitiveness of our members and the specialty chemical industry. In response to the 2016 election results, new SOCMA President and CEO Jennifer Abril released the following statement:

"Our members represent the building blocks of the U.S. economy. These specialty chemical manufacturers, who serve as leaders in their local communities, provide jobs for skilled workers and advanced manufacturing capabilities. They are at the forefront of the innovation pipeline through their research and development. But in order to succeed, they need business certainty and relief from regulatory burdens that hinder growth. We will continue to work with the new Administration to ensure that their voice is being heard and advocate for laws and regulations that are based on sound science, while creating a safe environment not only for our workers but the communities in which they reside.

Trade is critical to the continued success of our country's specialty chemical industry and continued American leadership around the world. The chemical manufacturing sector is one of America's top exporting industries. SOCMA would like to work with the Administration to ensure there is open and fair trade that levels the playing field, particularly for our small and medium-sized manufacturers who are competing globally, and address barriers that impede the ability of U.S. specialty chemical manufacturers from growing their businesses.

In 2016, Congress passed important and historic Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) reform legislation, and we look forward to working with the Administration and team at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to build on the good work that has been done to date. We especially would like to see that implementation is done in a thoughtful and productive way.
