Solar Project at Macy's New Jersey Distribution Center
Development partners Enfinity America Corporation and SunConnect Corporation deliver 1.1 MW Rooftop Solar Installation in Edison, NJ
ATLANTA , June 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Enfinity America Corporation (Enfinity) today announced the completion of a 1.1 MW, fixed-tilt solar array on the rooftop of a Macy's distribution center in Edison (Middlesex County), New Jersey – approximately 20 miles southwest of Newark. The development covers the purchase, construction and interconnection of the solar panels and related components.
Rafael Dobrzynski, Enfinity's CEO said "This installation for Macy's is a good example of what the future of solar PV will look like; more roof-mounted, distributed generation plants located near areas of higher electricity demand. It's also a good example of how it takes robust, experienced companies - such as the team on this project - to work together through a highly complex process to deliver a successful installation. The post-1603 solar market demands a high degree of development experience and ready access to financing."
Through a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA), Enfinity owns the solar energy plant and will sell the electricity generated to Macy's at a fixed rate. Local utility PSE&G also provided long-term financing for the project through its SREC-based solar loan program. The project was co-developed by SunConnect.
"We were pleased to see this project reach its operational milestone", said Gary Kassem, President of SunConnect. "We value the trust that Macy's has placed in SunConnect, and the best way we know to return that trust is to successfully complete this project and the many others that Macy's has awarded to SunConnect."
Bill Lyon, Macy's vice president for energy management said "This project represents the 42nd rooftop solar installation on our company's facilities across the country, and among our largest to date. We are proud to be a retail industry leader in hosting solar power, which is a critical element of our strategy for sustainability at Macy's, Inc. Harnessing the power of the sun supports our nation's drive for energy independence, and it helps our company to operate more efficiently. These are factors that are important to our customers, associates and shareholders."
The project is operational, and is expected to produce over 1.3 million kWh of energy annually.
