MISSION VIEJO, Calif., Feb. 21, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Mission Viejo High School head football coach and chairman of the South County Trojans Youth Football board, Chad Johnson, announced today the organization's commitment to advanced coaching and player development. As one of the newest chapters in the Snoop Youth Football League, the SC Trojans program has been established to fill a significant void that currently exists in the region's youth football market. The SC Trojans will offer an elite, high school-preparatory program that meets the competitive and progressive needs of the most advanced youth athletes in Orange County and surrounding communities.
"As we launch this new chapter, we do so with the deepest bench of elite youth football coaches in the region, including current and previous Trinity League and FBU coaching greats, as well as previous OC Buckeyes and Mission Viejo Cowboys coaches," said Johnson. "I am excited to implement my proven system of ongoing 'coaches clinics,' to further develop our coaching staff across all age groups and divisions and to ensure the highest quality youth coaching available today."
The 14U through 10U teams will be trained to run high school/college-level systems (offense, defense, and special teams), including the ability to run a dynamic "spread" offense, as well as the ability to effectively read and run high school-level defensive schemes and coverages. The younger divisions will run simpler, age-appropriate offensive and defensive schemes.
"It is broadly recognized among high school coaching circles that the core issue pervasive in most youth programs today is inadequate and improper coaching that fails to fully prepare players to excel in strong high school programs, which typically run spread offenses and college-level schemes on defense," said Johnson. "Our commitment to elite coaching and player development is designed to unlock the highest performance levels inherent in each athlete, while simultaneously preparing a new generation of youth players to compete at the highest level of high school football once they reach that life stage."
As previously announced, the SC Trojans will feature six unlimited weight class divisions: 14U, 12U, 11U, 10U, 8U, and 6U. Additionally, the SC Trojans will include cheerleading squads. Interested players for these divisions will be evaluated by professional coaches during initial tryouts on March 17th at Mission Viejo High School, with practices commencing on July 15th and regular season play beginning in early September.
