South Florida Radiation Oncology Announces Addition of New Physicians

WELLINGTON, Fla., Sept. 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- South Florida Radiation Oncology, (www.sfrollc.com) proudly announces the addition of three new physicians to its current roster. Vinay Sharma, M.D., Radiation Oncologist, Boca Raton, James T. Parsons, M.D., Radiation Oncologist, Boynton Beach and Albert A. Attia, M.D., Radiation Oncologist, Wellington, will be serving patients in three of SFRO's 10 locations throughout South Florida.

Vinay Sharma, M.D., graduated from Queen's University Faculty of Medicine in Ontario, Canada in 1992. He completed his Radiation Oncology Residency at the Princess Margaret Hospital, University of Toronto, the largest cancer treatment facility in North America. After completing a Fellowship in Brachytherapy at the William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan in 1997, he then served as the Residency Program Director and Chief of Brachytherapy for the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI.

He has been in private practice in South Florida for 13 years. Dr. Sharma is an active community speaker educating patients and the public about the advancements in treating cancer with radiation therapy, through educational seminars. He is Board Certified Radiation Oncologist, American Board of Radiology, Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. Prior to joining SFRO, he was in private practice with Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Palm Beach County.

James T. Parsons, M.D. graduated from Duke University Medical School in 1976. Dr. Parsons completed his Residency Training in Therapeutic Radiology at the University of Florida in 1980. He was on faculty at the University of Florida for 17 years and was former Clinic Director Department of Radiation Oncology and was named The Rodney R. Million Professor of Oncology at the University of Florida. He is a Recipient of an American Cancer Society Fellowship and was Chairman, Shands Hospital Cancer Committee, University of Florida. He has certifications in Hyperbaric Medicine, Stereotactic Radiosurgery, CyberKnife Radiosurgery, and Breast Brachytherapy.

An Oral Board Examiner for several years with the American College of Radiology specializing in head, neck and GU Cancers. He served as Assistant Editor, American Society for Therapeutic Radiation Oncology's official journal for approximately 15 years. Dr. Parsons has published multiple articles on head and neck cancer, soft tissue sarcomas, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, radiation dose schemes, thyroid cancer and complications of radiation therapy. Most recently he was in private practice at Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Palm Beach County and has been named "Best Doctors in America" (1992 to present) in addition to "Leading Physicians in the World 2010."

Albert Attia, M.D., is a graduate of Vanderbilt School of Medicine. He received a Bachelors of Science in Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, graduating summa cum laude. He was accepted into the early admissions program there after his sophomore year. Upon completing a medical internship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, he served his residency in radiation oncology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Baptist Medical Center.

Dr. Attia has participated in a number of published medical articles and poster presentations in   "Laryngoscope", "Journal of Neuro Oncology" and "Carcinogenesis." He has participated in numerous medical and professional presentations with other physicians for both oral and poster presentations at radiation oncology conferences such as American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), and Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). He is a Board eligible Radiation Oncologist.
