South Florida Radiation Oncology to Host Breast Cancer Awareness Event
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla., Aug. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- South Florida Radiation Oncology (www.sfrollc.com) is hosting a breast cancer awareness event, to kick off October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in St. Lucie County, with "Fun, Feathers and Fashion". Due to the prevalence of breast cancer today, the community at large is providing the event as a free of charge educational venue in order to provide new and valuable information on breast cancer treatment in the Treasure Coast area.
An inaugural event, the proceeds will benefit the Roseann Gregory Foundation. (roseanngregory.org). "Fun, Feathers and Fashion" will be held on Friday, October 5, 2012, from 6:00 -10:00 p.m. at Tradition Town Hall and Square. "There is so much new information in the world of early detection and cancer treatment options, it's impossible for the general public to keep up with it," said Dr. Mark Perman, Radiation Oncologist, South Florida Radiation Oncology.
In the U.S. women it is estimated there will be 226,870 new cases of invasive breast cancer diagnosed in 2012 and 39,510 breast cancer deaths.(Susan G. Komen Foundation) Although breast cancer is one of the most widely publicized types of cancer, with annual events taking place all over the world, education about treatment options, nutrition and exercise, and early detection practices are being updated each year.
"Our hope is that through this event, we provide information to the public as well as help survivors and those who are currently going through treatment. There are wonderful new exercise and nutrition programs and fashion options for breast cancer survivors, as well as great prevention tips. Our goal is to educate the public with this event, but in a truly fun environment," says Veronica Muniz, Marketing Coordinator, South Florida Radiation Oncology.
The event will be held both indoors at Tradition Town Hall and outdoors surrounding the courtyard in downtown Tradition. It will feature a Fashion Show with breast cancer survivors as models, medical educational booths, music and entertainment, bounce houses and slides, food vendors, and a special VIP lounge for sponsors. There will be a cooking show and makeup demonstrations with beauty tips for chemotherapy patients.
Sponsors of the event include St. Lucie Medical Center, Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers, Clear Channel Radio, Route 60 Hyundai, and Mederi Caretenders. Sponsorships are still available and range in price from $1,500 to $5,000. Booth spaces for outdoor vendors are only $100 plus a percent of sales.
