Southern California Albertsons, Vons, Pavilions and Lucky Stores Voluntarily Recall Assorted Candy Platter in Cooperation with Palmer Candy Company and Valley Milk Products LLC Recalls, Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination

FULLERTON, Calif., Jan. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- In cooperation with Palmer Candy Company, Albertsons, Vons, Pavilions and Lucky stores in Southern California are voluntarily recalling an Assorted Candy Platter made with milk powder produced by Valley Milk Products LLC. Valley Milk Products voluntarily recalled the milk powder due to possible Salmonella contamination. Palmer Candy Company used the milk powder in candy items contained in the four supermarkets' Assorted Candy Platter.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and persons with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and/or abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism entering the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The Assorted Candy Platter is 32 ounces and has a UPC Code Number of 0041144 078586, which can be found on the scale label. The product is sold in the bakery area and is packaged in a clear, clamshell container affixed with a scale label. The recall includes packages marked with Sell Thru dates up to and including 7.10.17 (July 10, 2017). The Sell Thru date is printed on the scale label.

No illnesses or injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled Assorted Candy Platter or items made with product supplied by Palmer Candy Company. This recall has been issued out of an abundance of caution. 

The recalled product has been removed from sale.  Customers are asked to check their cupboards and refrigerators for this product and discard or return it for a refund.
