Southern Sudanese Diaspora Vote in January 2011 Referendum

WASHINGTON, Jan. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For Southern Sudanese Diaspora in the United States, January 15, 2011 will be the last day to cast final votes to confirm the unity of Sudan or vote for the secession of Southern Sudan in the historical South Sudan January 2011 Referendum.  Registered Southern Sudanese voters will travel across the United States and Canada to eight US cities: Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Nashville, Washington, DC (Alexandria, VA), Omaha, Phoenix (Glendale, AZ) and Seattle on January 15, 2011.

On January 9, 2011 many Southern Sudanese in the US braved harsh weather conditions and travelled hundreds of miles to polling centers, and voted for their choice. International and domestic observers, members of the US Newsmedia and Foreign Press were on site to document the well-attended first day of voting and the South Sudan Referendum Commission (SSRC) US Out of Country Voting (OCV) process. 

USA SSRC representative, Benaiah Duku says, "The first day and consecutive days of voting have been a tremendous success. We are anticipating similar success for the last day of voting."

The South Sudan Referendum OCV is being organized by the SSRC, with assistance in eight Diaspora countries from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

 US Preliminary voting figures will be announced by SSRC US representative Benaiah Duku.

 Voting centers will open January 15, 2011 from 9:00am until 6:00pm in the following locations:

Only Southern Sudanese registered voters are eligible to vote. They must vote where they registered.
