CHANDLER, Ariz., Feb. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Sovereign Health of Chandler is pleased to announce the launch of a groundbreaking new treatment milieu, "Rebuilding Our Acceptance & Resilience" (ROAR) - a comprehensive behavioral health treatment using dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)-informed and trauma-informed care for patients. The uniqueness of ROAR includes the consistent use throughout the entire community of DBT-informed care patients receive from all members of Sovereign's staff throughout the day. Every member of the staff is trained to respond to emotionally-charged situations using DBT, motivational interviewing and other trauma-informed interventions.
ROAR serves women whose emotional dysregulation often precludes either the acceptance into other treatment programs or their unsuccessful discharge from traditional treatment programs. In most conventional treatment programs, patients may attend one or two DBT groups, which limits its effectiveness and leaves patients on their own for most of the day to try to remember the skills they've learned. With the innovation of ROAR, however, patients are continuously supported by DBT-informed care, whether they're receiving meals, riding to activities or relaxing, allowing them to practice the specific DBT skills they've learned in therapy. ROAR has created a safe, secure and consistent treatment environment.
"By launching ROAR, our Chandler treatment facility is able to provide a unique form of comprehensive care that gives women the opportunity to rebuild their lives in the strongest way. ROAR gives them back their power," said Kelly Vickrey, M.A., LISAC, program director at Sovereign Health of Chandler.
DBT is an evidence-based treatment for reducing self-harm, suicidality, emotional dysregulation and other emotionally driven behaviors associated with borderline personality disorder. The distinctive approach of ROAR has made a monumental difference for patients. The consistent use throughout the entire community of DBT in ROAR helps patients improve their ability to cope with difficult emotions, strengthen relationships and overcome unwanted behaviors. Patients quickly learn new behavioral skills and incorporate them into their daily behavior more quickly and effectively to foster acceptance and change in their lives.
Sovereign's Chandler facility provides comprehensive care for dual diagnosis and mental health patients in a WOMEN-ONLY setting – a fact that sets it apart from the majority of trauma treatment centers that treat both men and women. The facility offers patients customized treatment plans that encompass neurofeedback and individual and group sessions. Patients also participate in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, a treatment that alleviates the distress associated with traumatic memories.
