Spanky Assiter elected vice president of National Auctioneers Association

CANYON, Texas, July 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Spanky Assiter has long been one of the best known auctioneers in the United States, and now he's the National Auctioneers Association's newly elected vice president and future president.

Assiter, founder of Canyon-based Assiter Auctioneers, received 67 percent of the votes cast for the office and was named the new vice president at the association's annual business meeting in Louisville.

"It's a great honor to be elected by my colleagues to serve as vice president, which also means serving as president the following year, especially since I only decided to seek the position in February. It's not unusual for candidates now to campaign for a full year, so I had some ground to make up," said Assiter. "This is a major time commitment on my part, but the auction industry has been very good to me and my family, and it was time to give back. We have a great team in place here in Texas, and that frees me up to serve the industry in a greater way."

Assiter noted that Texas auctioneers played an unusually prominent role in the recent Conference & Show in Louisville. "Our dear friend Wendy Wadlington Lambert, of Coppell, won the women's division of the International Auctioneer Championship, and she'll represent Texas well with appearances throughout the country during the next year. In addition, the Texas Auctioneers Association will host next year's convention in Addison, so we had a major display to talk about those plans," said Assiter.
