"Achieving even one ISO/TS 16949 audit with no findings is pretty rare, but to do so eight times, with six different auditors in four different cultures is truly amazing," said Gene Daszko, vice president of Quality for Spansion. "Spansion chooses to pursue this high level of certification to demonstrate our commitment to the highest standards of quality and to being a reliable and trusted partner to our customers. These audit results clearly show the strength of our commitment."
Spansion's commitment to quality runs throughout the company and all its departments. These recertification audits involved the efforts of several hundred Spansion employees and enable the company to meet the strict certification requirements necessary to participate in premium portions of the embedded Flash memory market.
UL DQS Inc. is a leading global certification body for management systems. Their ISO/TS 16949 certification means that Spansion continues to be officially compliant with one of the most challenging sets of quality management system specifications in the world. ISO/TS 16949 includes the ISO 9001 standard, plus additional automotive sector requirements applicable to suppliers throughout the automotive supply chain.
About the ISO/TS 16949 Specification
ISO/TS 16949, in conjunction with ISO 9001, defines the quality management system requirements for the design and development, production and, when relevant, installation and service of automotive-related products. ISO/TS 16949 is applicable to sites of the organization where customer-specified parts, for production and/or service, are manufactured. Supporting functions, whether on-site or remote (such as design centers, corporate headquarters and distribution centres), form part of the audit as they support the sites, but cannot obtain stand-alone certification to this standard. ISO/TS 16949 can be applied throughout the automotive supply chain, and is also valued and recognized by customers in many other industry segments.
