Spherix Notified by USPTO of Issuance of New Standard Essential Patent Issued to Spherix

BETHESDA, Md., June 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Spherix Incorporated (Nasdaq: SPEX) -- an intellectual property development company committed to the fostering and monetization of intellectual property, today announced that the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) has notified the Company that it will issue a new patent to Spherix that is part of a standard essential family of patents.  

The new patent will issue on June 30, 2015 as U.S. Patent RE45,598 from U.S. Patent Application Serial No.13/728,698.

The listed inventors of the new patent, entitled "VLAN Frame Format," are Paul J. Frantz, et al. The patent claims generally relate to methods for the transmission, identification and association of information in a virtual network associated with a data frame.  The issuance of this application further enhances the existing portfolio and coverage of technology related to data communication across different networks. This patent is part of the same family of standard-essential patents currently being litigated against both Cisco and Verizon. The technology underlying this patent is currently practiced by network equipment and service providers industry-wide.
