SPRING/BREAK, New York's Hip Downtown Art Fair Opens March 7

NEW YORK, Feb. 28, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SPRING/BREAK Art Show, New York City's first curator-driven art fair, returns for its second year from March 5th - 10th, 2013.  Held at the Old School in NoLIta at 233 Mott Street, New York City, SPRING/BREAK Art Show offers a new platform for art enthusiasts and collectors to experience an art fair. The only trade event organized without galleries, the fair's invited curators have selected artists to participate.  Artwork is organized and shown by the curators, much like a museum installation.   The show is open to the public with a $5 entrance ticket, and is free to anyone holding an Armory Show or VOLTA NY VIP card. Through its commitment to curators from all of New York's five boroughs, SPRING/BREAK Art Show offers a unique destination for collectors, artists, and art enthusiasts during the city's art fair week.  More than 20 curators will premiere over 500 new art works by more than 70 artists.

SPRING/BREAK allows visitors to view and consider work without the commercial pressure associated with traditional gallery art fair booths.  For its commercial component, SPRING/BREAK partners with online auction house Paddle8, with all sales accessible to Paddle8's global collector community beginning on Friday, March 1st. Fair organizers, artists and curators have agreed to donate a portion of sales to two organizations: the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Emergency Relief Fund for individual artists affected by Hurricane Sandy, and Arts in the Armed Forces (AITAF) a non-profit producing theatrical and musical performances for military personnel and their families.  5% of the sale price of each artwork will be donated to each of the organizations. By offering a "break" from the typical art fair model, SPRING/BREAK Art Show aims to turn observation into interaction and create conversations between the local community and the various factions of the art world at large.
