S&T Bank Supports 'Go Red for Women' Campaign by Creating Awareness of Heart Disease During Month of February

INDIANA, Penn., Jan. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- S&T Bank (NASDAQ: STBA), a full-service financial institution with branch locations in 11 Pennsylvania counties, will support the American Heart Association's "Go Red for Women" campaign during the month of February through a series of initiatives, including decorative red lighting outside the company's Indiana headquarters.  S&T's deputy chief risk officer, Amy Heinl, is a survivor of spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD), a rare condition that strikes younger women and can result in sudden death.  As a result, Amy now serves as a spokeswoman for the "Go Red for Women" national campaign.

"I tell my story because I am actually alive to tell it.  I want to show other women that heart disease can happen to anyone, but you can survive it. I'm proof of that," Amy said.  "I really couldn't believe this happened to me, and my heart was the last thing on my mind.  I thought of myself as a healthy person, and I was exercising when it happened."

Heart disease is the number one killer of women and is more deadly than all forms of cancer.  "Go Red for Women" is leading the charge to end this deadly disease once and for all.  S&T will raise awareness for heart disease by asking employees to wear red outfits and "Go Red for Women" pins in recognition of the 10^th National Wear Red Day on Feb. 1, 2013 and throughout the month.  The company will join buildings, monuments and landmarks across the country by lighting its headquarters with red spotlights.  In addition, S&T Bank is serving as a gold-level sponsor for the "Go Red for Women" luncheon in Pittsburgh.

As a busy executive and mother of three young boys, Amy is always on the move.  But one day, during an early-morning workout, she experienced chest pain and shortness of breath.  Unable to shake it, she collapsed, and her friend called 911.  Amy was rushed into surgery to repair an artery that had torn 2 ½  inches.  Following surgery, Amy began the long journey toward recovery. And before she knew it, she was competing in a 5K race.
