Prior to selecting EfficientIP, St. Dominic's had been using Microsoft- based DNS and DHCP services. The hospital's environment was not deployed to easily support High Availability.  The use of many spreadsheets was a source of constant errors that created a real bottleneck in deploying new network services.  Additionally, the lack of delegation meant IT was the only source of IP addressing, which created a lack of control and documentation.

St. Dominic's researched different options over the past several years to replace its existing Microsoft DNS/DHCP services and spreadsheets with a fully integrated DDI solution.  They required the ability to overlay with their Microsoft services until they could be replaced with a Multi-Master DNS environment.  This would enable a smooth and easy migration with zero downtime.

"St. Dominic's has a reputation for being a premier healthcare organization, therefore our IT infrastructure must be able to reflect these outward signs of excellence," said Murray Farrar, Network Administrator at St. Dominic's Information Technology Department. "Switching to EfficientIP's DNS and DHCP servers in a High Availability environment is key for us," he added.

EfficientIP's integrated DDI approach and granular delegation of rights now allows more people within St. Dominic's to manage IP addresses and DNS/DHCP services with fewer errors and without the need of deep technical knowledge.  By migrating away from spreadsheets, they have benefited by having greater flexibility from a user-friendly interface. The DHCP architecture is now configured as a One-to-One SmartArchitecture between the two datacenters for High Availability.

"We had excellent support from the EfficientIP team during the entire selection process, along with effective skills transfer, and now we benefit from automated management of our IP addresses. We are currently looking to allow more users to utilize the product for even greater value," added Murray Farrar. "The migration went well and the HA architecture will provide the network with reliability and stability that we need. We finally have a real IPAM solution to manage our IP environment," he concluded.
