St. John's Episcopal School Appoints New Head of School
Meshea Matthews Selected to Lead Dallas' oldest Episcopal School
DALLAS, Feb. 13, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The St. John's Episcopal School Board of Trustees announced the appointment of Meshea Matthews as its next head of school effective July 1, 2019. Matthews' selection is the result of a nationwide search lead by educational search consultants RG175.
"Meshea was a standout among an impressive group of finalists. It was clear that she personified the ethos and mission of St. John's and would be the leader we sought to propel the school forward," said Board of Trustees President Mike Androvett.
Matthews began her career in independent school education at The Hockaday School in Dallas. She held a range of roles during her 19 years at the school, progressing from coach to classroom teacher to department head to Dean of Students and culminating as Director of Residence Life and Global Outreach for the school's 106-year-old boarding program. Matthews earned her degree in Mass Communications and Journalism from Texas Wesleyan University and began her career in broadcast journalism.
"Over the years I have come to know St. John's, and I found the students to be prepared and capable scholars, but more importantly to be students of great character and moral courage," said Matthews. "I am honored to join and lead a community that is so clearly dedicated to the preparation of its students and to fulfilling its mission."
The nine-month search process was chaired by trustee Melissa Eakes who noted, "We sought a leader who would embody the very attributes we uphold for our graduates. We found that in Meshea."
Matthews will begin her role as head of school on July 1, 2019, taking over for outgoing head Mark Crotty, who is leaving to serve as the Executive Director of the Northwest Association of Independent Schools in Seattle.
St. John's Episcopal School is a pre-K through eighth grade co-educational school in East Dallas.
