St. Louis Community College and WGU Missouri Sign Agreement
STLCC graduates will receive discounted tuition and seamless transfer at state-endorsed university
ST. LOUIS, April 23, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- St. Louis Community College and WGU Missouri announced today the signing of an articulation agreement that allows STLCC graduates and staff to apply for free to WGU Missouri and, if admitted, receive discounted tuition at the nonprofit online university.
"We are joining other community colleges in Missouri in providing this opportunity for our students," said Donna Dare, STLCC Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. "The collaboration with WGU Missouri will help many STLCC graduates go on to gain their bachelor's degree without excessive expense or having to uproot themselves to pursue their next degree."
"The partnership with WGU Missouri is a natural fit," said Dare. "Our institutions share an emphasis on providing outstanding educational value in a flexible format, and this agreement provides a great new opportunity for St. Louis Community College students."
The articulation agreement allows seamless transfer of credits and offers STLCC graduates who are admitted to WGU Missouri a five percent tuition discount. In addition, for the first year of the agreement, WGU Missouri will waive the $65 application fee. The agreement between the two institutions also allows for credits from STLCC to smoothly transfer to WGU Missouri.
"WGU Missouri is proud to partner with St. Louis Community College," said Angie Besendorfer, Chancellor of WGU Missouri. "We know that WGU Missouri's innovative model will make it easier and more affordable for STLCC graduates, especially those with work and family obligations, to achieve the goal of a bachelor's degree."
WGU Missouri was established in 2013 by Governor Jay Nixon, in partnership with national Western Governors University (WGU), as the state's only fully online, competency-based university. WGU Missouri allows adult students to take advantage of prior learning and experience to move quickly through material they already know so they can focus on what they still need to learn. WGU's flat-rate tuition of about $3,000 per six-month term has remained unchanged for six years.
