SAN DIEGO, June 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- StackIQ today announced the immediate availability of Rocks+ instances for Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2),bringing one of the leading cluster management solutions to Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers. Organizations with large-scale computational needs for tasks such as data processing, analytics, genomic sequencing, financial analysis, imaging, and more will find a highly scalable applications solution with the Rocks+ instances for Amazon EC2. Additionally, applications already running on local Rocks clusters can now easily be moved into the cloud and benefit from the elasticity, flexibility, and cost advantages of Amazon EC2.

With intelligent multi-instance automation and the entire cloud stack packaged and deployed as a single modular Linux distribution, customers are able to quickly set up and manage clusters of servers in the cloud. The system provides a simple graphical user interface (GUI) to kick-start the management instance in Amazon EC2, which is then capable of dynamically provisioning fully connected heterogeneous instance types at massive scale. This means customers can have their applications up and running in a scalable, reliable multi-server environment in less time than before.
Rocks+ instances provide a modular framework that enables the rapid deployment of automatically configured, cloud-aware software systems. Customers can take advantage of an end-to-end packaged cloud stack while retaining the ability to select specific software components to meet user-specific requirements.
"Rocks has been a core part of our cluster management strategy for many years," said Vijay Pande, PhD, Professor and Chair of the Biophysics Program, Stanford University. "Now that Rocks+ instances are available on Amazon EC2, we can respond to changing demands on our capacity more quickly than ever by moving workloads to the cloud -- saving both time and money."
"We are delighted to be working with StackIQ on Rocks+ instances for Amazon EC2 providing customers scalable solutions for the compute capacity they need," said Terry Wise, Director, Business Development, AWS. "This technology combination will allow an even larger number of scientific and technical computing users to leverage the secure, on-demand, pay as you go services from AWS."
Rocks+ instances for Amazon EC2 are available now for all hardware virtualized machines. Pricing ranges from $0.20 to $2.34 per instance-hour, depending on the instance size selected.
