Stand Up Placer CEO Recognized on BBC's 100 Women 2018

AUBURN, Calif., Dec. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- On November 19, 2018, Stand Up Placer Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director Jenny Davidson was recognized on the BBC's 100 Women 2018 list, which honors 100 women worldwide from all walks of life who influence and inspire others. The list includes the first female Secretary General of the UN, president of the New York Stock Exchange, Australia's first female Prime Minister, Chelsea Clinton, and scores of inspirational authors, entrepreneurs, and social activists. Ms. Davidson is one of only eight women from the United States on this year's list.

Ms. Davidson was recognized for her work as an advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking in Placer County. During her tenure as CEO, services to survivors have more than tripled. In 2017, Stand Up Placer provided 98,975 services to Placer County victims. Under her leadership, Stand Up Placer broadened its mission to include survivors of sex trafficking and expanded safe house services to become gender inclusive and pet-friendly. Ms. Davidson came to the attention of the BBC via Stand Up Placer's most recent service expansion, becoming one of only 172 pet-friendly domestic violence shelters in North America. Susan Cresswell, Service Area Risk Officer, Sutter Health noted, "I survived domestic violence years ago. My abuser repeatedly threatened and even harmed my pets. I would have left sooner if there had been a safe house that allowed my pets to escape with me. It feels great to come full circle. As President of the Board of Directors for Stand Up Placer, I am proud to be part of making such a positive impact on our community."

The agency was featured in a BBC report on domestic violence and its impact on pets which aired on Saturday, December 1. Stand Up Placer worked with RedRover, a national non-profit dedicated to helping domestic violence victims keep their pets safe, to make the pet-friendly conversion. RedRover President and CEO Nicole Forsyth shared, "Nearly 48% of domestic violence survivors delay leaving their abuser because they don't want to leave their pets behind. RedRover has worked with Stand Up Placer for years to provide emergency pet boarding through their Safe Escape grants. We were very excited to support Stand Up Placer's transition to a pet-friendly shelter with a RedRover Safe Housing grant. Now survivors and their pets can seek safety together." 

The attention the agency has received from Ms. Davidson's inclusion on the list has resulted in additional survivors coming forward for services as well as additional community partners.
