Startup Phenomenon: Women---Sparking a Revolution
First-time event to explore impact of—and opportunities for—women entrepreneurs and women-led businesses
BOULDER, Colo., Aug. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Startup Phenomenon series kicks into high gear Sept. 3 with Startup Phenomenon: Women, a one-day event in the 2,000-seat Macky Auditorium at CU-Boulder.
The roster of more than 20 speakers includes author Margaret Neale, management professor at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business; Amanda Steinberg, founder and CEO of DailyWorth; and Michele Weslander Quaid, chief technology officer (federal) and innovation evangelist at Google. They'll be gathering to explore topics like startup financing, mentoring by and for women entrepreneurs, alternative business models, and resources available for women-led businesses. They'll also be highlighting trends like the fact that, between 1997 and 2013, the number of women-owned firms grew at 1.5 times the national average.
"This event isn't simply about the challenges women entrepreneurs face," said Startup Phenomenon co-founder Carrie Van Heyst. "We'll definitely be discussing the very real barriers that are out there, but we'll also be moving beyond them to promote a culture of female entrepreneurs and to highlight the growing impact that women-led business are having on the global economy. We want to embrace that momentum while also adding to it."
The conference is open to the public and will feature presentations, panels, workshops, networking opportunities, and a wrap-up concert by Paper Bird singer Esme Patterson. Tickets start at $25 for students and $100 for the general public. For a complete list of speakers and sessions, please visit the Startup Phenomenon website.
