State Treasurer Richard Mourdock Defeats Long-time Incumbent in Indiana Senate Race

 CAPE PAC Is Part of Winning Grassroots Movement to Promote Conservative Candidate

WASHINGTON, May 11, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Coalition of Americans for Political Equality PAC was among several leading grassroots organizations to support state Treasurer Richard Mourdock in a historic campaign to defeat six-term incumbent U.S. Senator Richard Lugar on Tues., May 8, 2012.

Mourdock prevailed over Lugar by a 20-point margin due to the efforts of many independent grassroots organizations and conservative groups, including CAPE PAC. Lugar spent 36 years in the U.S. Senate.

• Ran online search and video ad campaigns nationwide and targeted to Indiana
• Created a candidate support website to raise awareness about Richard Mourdock: www.electmourdock.org
• Pushed voter information through social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube) to support the candidate.
• Conducted a GOTV effort, calling residents of Indiana to get out the vote for Richard Mourdock until polls closed on May 8th

Lugar is the third GOP senator to lose a primary since 2010. He was criticized for a number of reasons including not residing within the state of Indiana ; failing to address voter concerns about conservative fiscal management; and being out of touch with the public – issues raised by CAPE PAC.
