WASHINGTON, March 27, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is a statement by former Senator Pete Domenici, a Bipartisan Policy Center senior fellow, on the passing of James Schlesinger:

"James Schlesinger put America before politics, serving under both Republican and Democratic administrations in some of the most prestigious leadership positions.

"Jim's data-driven and factual approach to problem-solving was unrivaled. I recall working with him on many matters of energy, nuclear and defense. One of my favorite professional memories of Jim was our collaboration on the Natural Gas Policy Act of 1978. Deregulating the natural gas industry was difficult politically, but Jim had the vision to take the long view and allow for the natural gas renaissance to begin.

"America has lost a great leader. He will be sorely missed."
