BALTIMORE, Nov. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Stephanie C. Hill, Vice President and General Manager of Lockheed Martin's Ship & Aviation Systems line of business for Mission Systems & Training, has been elected as the new Chair of the Board of Directors of the Greater Baltimore Committee.

Hill, a Baltimore native who joined the GBC's board of directors in 2008, is the first African-American woman elected to serve as chair of the GBC board.
She was unanimously elected by the GBC's Board of Directors on November 13. She replaces David Warnock, managing partner and co-founder of Camden Partners. He stepped down from the chair position November 3 to run for mayor of Baltimore in the 2016 election.

Hill said she looks forward to leading and strengthening the GBC's role as an influential, independent voice and thoughtful leader on key issues affecting not only the business and private sectors in the Greater Baltimore area, but also those of public concern, including social, transportation and economic issues.
"The vital role the GBC plays in the Greater Baltimore area can't be overstated and I'm excited to get to work and ensure that role continues to be elevated and appreciated," Hill added.
With a mayoral election and a number of major events and initiatives planned in the city and the region, Fry said Hill's leadership skills will be tapped often.

Along with her active involvement with the GBC during her tenure on the board of directors, Hill has been involved in many other civic and community organizations in the Baltimore region, including the Maryland Business Roundtable and University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Board of Visitors. She also serves on the board of directors of Project Lead the Way, a leading provider of K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs.
She is the recipient of many awards, including earning the President's Award from the
Greater Baltimore Committee in 2013 for her support of minority business development, a sign of her commitment to mentoring others.
Other awards that Hill has received include being named the U.S. Black Engineer of the Year by Career Communications Group and included on EBONY Magazine's Power 100 list. Most recently she was named one of Computerworld's 2015 Premier 100 IT Leaders, one of Maryland's 19th Annual International Leadership Awardees by the World Trade Center Institute, and one of The Daily Record's 2015 Influential Marylanders.
Hill joined Lockheed Martin in 1987 as a software engineer and has assumed positions of increasing responsibility throughout her career.
In her current role, she oversees the strategy and execution of all ship and aviation systems programs. This diverse portfolio includes the Littoral Combat Ship program, Coast Guard systems, aviation systems and intelligence, and surveillance and reconnaissance systems.
Hill graduated with high honors from UMBC, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Economics.
