Stephen Liu, MD, Accepts New Role as Chief of Hematology and Oncology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital

WASHINGTON, Sept. 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- MedStar Health is proud to announce Stephen Liu, MD, as the new division chief of Hematology and Oncology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, part of the MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute. Dr. Liu is also a faculty member, investigator, and an active researcher through the hospital's research engine, Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer, the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in the region providing access to breakthrough cancer therapies and clinical trials.

In this leadership role, Dr. Liu will oversee the division's clinical and research activities, with a focus on delivering high-quality patient care and advancing innovative cancer research.

Dr. Liu previously served as the director of Thoracic Oncology and head of Developmental Therapeutics at Georgetown Lombardi. A board-certified medical oncologist with expertise in lung cancer, he has led national and international clinical trials focused on developing novel therapies and combination treatments for advanced thoracic cancers. His research has been published in leading medical journals, such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Journal of Thoracic Oncology. He is also the co-host for the official podcast for the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC).
