Steve Mariucci Joins California Senior Games Bocce Competition

LIVERMORE, Calif., Feb. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Steve Mariucci, NFL Network Analyst and former NFL coach of the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions, will join the California Senior Games Bocce Competition at Livermore, California's Campo di Bocce running from March 11th through 17th.

"I hate to admit I'm a senior now, but this competition is definitely on my bucket list," said Mariucci. "Beyond football, Bocce is definitely my favorite sport. More than 25 million Americans are involved in the game, and Bocce has become the fastest growing sport in the United States. Worldwide, some 300 million enthusiasts enjoy the sport."

Mariucci and his team will play in the "open" Bocce competition starting at 8 am on March 13th.

Bocce players from 50 to 85+ are invited to join Steve in this California Seniors Bocce Championship. Registration for all players closes February 27th.

The 4-player Open Team event is recommended for all skill levels of Bocce players and teams who participate at parks, clubs and senior centers.  There will also be men and women's doubles events for experienced Punto Raffa Volo tournament players.

Any individual who reaches the age of 50 by December 31, 2012, is eligible to compete, and out of state players are welcome to participate as well.  Teams can register at www.bayareaseniorgames.org until February 27th.
