Steven C. Gordon Family Foundation commits $20 million to expand capacity of Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center

The Laurie and Steven C. Gordon Pavilion will add 103 hospital beds

WESTWOOD, Calif., Oct. 8, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- UCLA Health has received a $20 million commitment from longtime philanthropists and advisory board leaders Laurie and Steven C. Gordon to help expand access to care at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

The gift from the Gordons will support renovation of the medical center's fourth floor, which currently houses the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA. The neuropsychiatric hospital is relocating to the new UCLA mental health campus, which is on track to open in summer 2026 in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood of Los Angeles. The move will increase UCLA Health's psychiatric bed capacity to 139 (119 inpatient beds and 20 observation beds) from 74.

The Steven C. Gordon Family Foundation gift, which will be recognized with the naming of the Laurie and Steven C. Gordon Pavilion, will support the conversion of the vacated space to create an additional 103 beds for adult and pediatric critical and acute care patients. The Gordon Pavilion will expand Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center capacity by 23%.

The couple have a long and generous history of advocacy for UCLA and UCLA Health. Steven Gordon, who grew up in Cheviot Hills and attended UCLA, is chairman of Domino Realty Management. He joined the UCLA Health System board in 2012 and the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center board of advisors in 2017; he was chair of the Reagan board from 2022 to 2023. Steven has served on the board of advisors for the UCLA Ziman Center for Real Estate at UCLA Anderson School of Management since 2014. He was on the UCLA Centennial Campaign executive committee and is a member of UCLA's Second Century Council.

Laurie Gordon is a former vice president of real estate at United Artists and a former vice president of Warner Bros. International Theatres. She joined the UCLA Health System Board in 2012 and joined the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital board in 2013, serving as its chair from 2018 to 2023. In 2017, Laurie joined the UCLA Depression Grand Challenge Leadership Council and in 2019, the UCLA Health Operation Mend board of advisors. She has chaired the UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center board of advisors since 2024 and was elected to the UCLA Foundation board of directors in 2025.

The Gordons founded the Max Gray Fund for Treatment of Mood Disorders in 2014, in memory of Laurie's late son. The fund supports fellowships for advanced clinical training of psychiatrists and psychologists who treat children, adolescents and adults. The UCLA Max Gray Child and Adolescent Mood Disorders Program was also named in Max's memory.

In 2018, the Steven C. Gordon Family Foundation pledged $25 million to establish the UCLA Laurie and Steven Gordon Commitment to Cure Parkinson's Disease at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and the UCLA Neuroscience Research Building was renamed the Laurie and Steven C. Gordon Neuroscience Research Building. This complemented the Steven C. Gordon Family Chair in Parkinson's Disease Research, which was established by the foundation in 2013.

The couple, whose lifetime giving to UCLA now exceeds $50 million, received the UCLA Fiat Lux Award — one of UCLA's highest honors — in 2023 in recognition of their work in the community and throughout the campus.
