Vale SA (NYSE:VALE) shares climbed 3.79% to $15.32. The company on Nov. 27 said that it agreed to pay 22.325 billion reais ($9.61 billion) in taxes on profit from overseas operations, accepting an offer from Brazil's government that cuts a disputed back-tax bill in half.

The world's largest producer of iron ore will spread payments over 15 years with 5.965 billion reais, or 27 percent of the total, due this month. The agreement came as Vale neared a deadline of Friday to either accept the government's discount offer or see it vanish.

SolarCity Corp (NASDAQ:SCTY) shares gained 6.54% to $52.28. The company on Nov. 25 announced the opening of ten new operations centres in California. All are expected to be operational by the end of 2013, nearly doubling the company's locations in the state. The regional operations centers will expand solar services to new areas, reduce installation wait times, and contribute to state and local economies by creating jobs in a range of new locations. SolarCity will now have a location within 30 miles of more than 90 percent of the state's population. The company already has more than 2,100 employees in California, and is currently seeking to fill at least 260 additional job openings in the Golden State.

Additionally, the company on Nov. 21 announced that it has completed what is reported to be the first securitization of distributed solar energy assets. SolarCity completed a private placement in the amount of $54,425,000 with an interest rate of 4.80% and a scheduled maturity date of December 2026.

Nokia Corporation (ADR)(NYSE:NOK) shares gained 0.62% to $8.06. Striking workers at a Nokia factory in southern China on Nov. 22 threatened to extend industrial action after the company terminated the contracts of 59 employees for failing to return to work. Hundreds of employees stopped work on Nov. 19, complaining of changes in the wake of Nokia's sale of its mobile phones business to U.S. software giant Microsoft. The striking workers said they are being forced to sign new contracts with worse terms of employment.
