Streaming Video Alliance Convenes at The Walt Disney Studios for First Quarterly Member Meeting of 2019

FREMONT, Calif., Feb. 20, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The Streaming Video Alliance (the Alliance), an industry forum solving challenges to improve the video experience, convenes today in Burbank, California at The Walt Disney Studios. The two-day meeting will commence with a keynote by Alliance board member and Disney Streaming Services EVP & CTO Joe Inzerillo. The event will also include a presentation by Streamroot Co-Founder & CEO Pierre-Louis Theron on "P2P & Multisourcing: Scaling Streaming Architecture via Client-side Technologies;" a presentation by Harmonic VP Video Strategy Thierry Fautier on "How OTT Services Can Scale to Dramatically Improve QoE;" and a tour of the Disney Studio.

"Our theme for the first meeting of 2019 is 'Streaming Video Trends,' and we'll explore that topic throughout the next two days."

The Alliance's Working Groups will meet in person to discuss their latest initiatives and papers. Highlights from recent Working Group progress include:

• Advertising Working Group. An Ad Hoc Campaign document will be initiated this year, and the group will leverage their breakout session at the Q1 member meeting to discuss the architecture of the document.
• Geo Working Group. This group is focused on finalizing a new document outline around proxy blocking best practices.
• Open Caching Working Group. The first draft of the HTTP Redirect for Video Scheme position paper will be ready for review at this meeting. Other projects in progress include the LTE Multicast document, 5G/MEC document, URI Signing and Organization, QoE/QoS document, and an Open Caching Standards Update document.
• QoE/Measurement Working Group. This group continues to work on the End-to-End Monitoring document.
• Privacy and Protection Working Group. This group is formulating the outline for their Stream Security Best Practices paper which will be discussed in more detail during the Q1 meeting.
• Network and Transport Working Group. This group's work continues on the Scaling Best Practices whitepaper. They are also considering a POC-type activity that will be discussed at the Q1 meeting.
• Live Streaming Working Group. This group is continuing their work on the best practices low latency document and will conduct a review of the document to date at the Q1 meeting.
• VR Study Group. They are focused on building a project plan at the Q1 meeting for the 360-Degree Streaming Video Latency Best Practices project.

The Alliance is also starting the practice of releasing "position papers," which will provide in-depth analysis and Alliance opinion about key streaming topics. The first paper, "The Viability of Multicast in Future Streaming Architectures," will be published at the end of February. The Alliance recently announced the 2019 Membership Grant Recipients and welcomes these new members to the Q1 Member Meeting. New Grant Members include Datazoom, Eluvio, HellaStorm, Quortex and Streamroot. Based on their contributions last year, the 2018 Grant Recipient Members Touchstream and ContentArmor will continue into 2019 as Grant members.
