Struggling to Exercise and Eat Right? It's Not Your Fault!
National survey reveals that life's surprises, more so than personal weakness, derail fitness goals
RONKONKOMA, N.Y., June 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Americans want to live healthy lifestyles, but derailers keep getting in the way.
Sudden disruptions – especially last-minute plan changes and work demands – regularly prevent U.S. adults from making mindful choices, according to a survey1 commissioned by the makers of Pure Protein®, a leading brand of protein-packed nutrition bars, shakes, powders, and innovative snacks like the new Pure Protein® Crunch.
More than half (57 percent) say these "derailers" knock them off track, causing them to make choices they would not normally make. Women (61 percent) are more likely than men (52 percent) to do so. The top culprits? Last-minute plan changes (40 percent), work demands (29 percent), unexpected guests (25 percent), and travel delays (20 percent). Even in the face of such unpredictability, a majority (54 percent) still blame themselves for falling off-track.
Fortunately, there is hope – 77 percent believe keeping a nutritious snack handy would help them stay on track with their active lifestyle.
"Despite our best intentions to exercise, eat right and stay fit, life often gets in the way," said Amie Testerman, Senior Brand Director, Pure Protein. "We are humorously calling attention to this issue, and encouraging anyone who's striving towards a fit and active lifestyle to plan ahead, and keep a Pure Protein® bar with you to help avoid the unknown and unexpected – or as we call them, derailers."
The study also rated the ideal traits Americans seek in their snacks, with two out of three people favoring good taste (35 percent) and protein-packed (31 percent), followed closely by sugar content (29 percent) and ready-to-eat (27 percent).
Pure Protein offers a variety of tasty, smart snack options to help those of us who are seemingly always on the go, make mindful food choices even when a derailer strikes. Pure Protein® products include:
- Pure Protein® Bars, which deliver 19 to 21 grams of protein [featuring whey] with 3 grams or less of sugar. Flavors include Chocolate Salted Caramel, Dark Chocolate Coconut, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chewy Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Deluxe and Chocolate Peanut Caramel.
- Pure Protein® Crunch, a new bite-sized protein snack formulated with 10 grams of protein per serving [featuring soy], 5 grams of sugar and 160 calories or less depending on flavor. Available in two delicious flavors - Double Chocolate and Peanut Butter.
- Pure Protein® Powder delivers 15 to 25 grams of protein [featuring whey] in 170 calories or less, and under 5 grams of sugar. Among its varieties and flavors are Rich Chocolate and French Vanilla.
Pure Protein recently launched a marketing initiative highlighting "derailers" – the often unavoidable things that can knock health-conscious, fitness-focused individuals off-track. The lighthearted campaign debuted online in May and is headlined by a series of three commercials, named "Kid," "Driver," and "Pilot." Each whimsically portrays everyday interferences to show the importance of keeping a Pure Protein® bar nearby. The campaign includes digital and social media components, as well as public relations. The TV advertising campaign is set to launch in July.
