Students Answer More Than 54 Million Questions on PrepU™, Creating Nursing's Most In-Depth Adaptive Learning Tool

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Nursing students have answered more than 54 million questions using PrepU™, an adaptive learning solution offered by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW) that is rapidly improving student test scores and changing how nursing courses are taught.  LWW is part of Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information, business intelligence and point-of-care solutions for the healthcare industry.  

PrepU provides custom online quizzes to help students master course concepts and board and certification exam content. Based on prior responses, PrepU automatically adjusts questions to meet each student at their current level of learning, and directs students to text or e-book content for review.  Questions are continuously calibrated to establish difficulty levels, based on the answers provided by all users. Launched in 2010, PrepU now includes tens of thousands of quiz questions, and is a support tool for over 30 popular nursing and health professions textbooks and e-books.

Working with the National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards and Student Testing at UCLA, LWW has evaluated PrepU results in 16 undergraduate nursing courses involving nearly 700 students.  The research finds that students who use PrepU to support classroom and textbook learning frequently outperform both prior classes and current classmates who did not use the tool.  In addition, over 98 percent of nursing students who used PrepU to prepare for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) passed the exam, exceeding the national passing average by more than 10 percentage points. 

Nursing schools that have tested PrepU have noted improvements in test scores and classroom performance, and many have since added PrepU to the curriculum for additional nursing courses.
