StyleLine Magazine Launches Buy Local Campaign
"I'VE GOT THE POWER" CAMPAIGN PROMOTES POSITIVE IMPACTS OF SUPPORTING LOCAL RETAILERS
DETROIT, Aug. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- September is the official kickoff for StyleLine magazine's promotion of women supporting their communities through local shopping. The magazine is emphasizing the impact that local shopping makes on local jobs, tax revenues, arts, youth activities and other quality-of-life factors. StyleLine's new "I've Got The Power" campaign will include a Shop Local Pledge, a Michigan Fashion Resource Guide, local retailer shopping incentives and magazine features that highlight prominent local shoppers.
StyleLine Editor Karen Buscemi shared why it's important to realize the negative effect that shopping outside of Michigan has on our community. "We all say how one person can make a difference, but what if we all actually acted on that theory? StyleLine wanted to be a catalyst in giving women a platform to collectively show how much buying locally can sustain retailers who rely on local support to thrive. Our publication has always focused on the abundance of talent and treasures in Metro Detroit, and our 'I've Got the Power' campaign elevates this awareness to an even greater level."
StyleLine's monthly features will bring greater visibility to the local retailers, local designers and the readers who love them, such as prominent metro area women who will share their head-to-toe ensembles of locally purchased favorites, the ability for readers to take the Shop Local Pledge, shopping education, and features of area retailers who offer unique treasures any woman would be proud to claim were "bought here."
In the magazine's September issue, Publisher Dale Parry challenges readers to imagine what their community would look like without its beloved stores – and without the jobs and many other community resources supported by those stores. "Women are the Chief Purchasing Officers in most families, and they control more than 85% of consumer spending – about $7 trillion nationwide. So when women commit to shopping locally, instead of spending their Michigan dollars in New York or Chicago or at online stores based elsewhere, those consumers are literally saving local jobs. The taxes paid here also fund the work of local government. And by supporting local stores, women enable those businesses to continue sponsoring non-profit agencies, the arts, youth athletics and other important quality-of-life programs. Simply by focusing their buying power locally, women can make the difference."
The September issue of StyleLine magazine, on newsstands Aug. 27, features Jennifer Gilbert's photo session in her locally purchased outfit. The magazine is also conducting a reader survey on its website to identify brands currently unavailable in Michigan that cause readers to spend their money outside the state.
