Summit Fosters Disruptive Innovations to Allow Americans to Age at Home

ROCHESTER, N.Y., April 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- This year's Presidential primary campaign has largely ignored an issue paramount to a growing segment of our population. Nearly 90% of Americans prefer to age at home, yet barriers, such as antiquated reimbursement and licensing policies, prevent Americans from realizing this goal. To address this political "blind spot," the d.health Executive Summit on Wednesday, May 4 at The New York Academy of Sciences will assemble health, technology, finance and policy leaders to discuss today's best ideas, form tomorrow's partnerships, and launch the care models of the future.

"Care can and should move out of the hospital," said Bruce Leff, MD, geriatrician and director for the Center for Transformative Geriatric Research at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Dr. Leff, also a member of the d.health Advisory Board, stated, "As the health system shifts to value-based care, home care will challenge the traditional, facility-based model."

The d.health Summit agenda features more than 10 CEOs and numerous thought leaders who are disrupting healthcare to modernize homecare, provide virtual visits into the home, transform the insurance industry, redesign and reframe successful aging, and revolutionize medical education. Noted journalists from The New York Times, The Atlantic, and Fast Company will moderate the panel sessions.

Stephen Johnston, co-founder of Aging2.0, will speak about "Partnership Opportunities" and new entrants to healthcare will provide unique perspectives. Stephanie Tilenius, a former Google executive who recently launched the wellness app Vida, will join journalist Christina Farr and Grand Rounds CEO, Owen Tripp, to chat about "Investment Opportunities in the Aging in Place Market."

Seth Sternberg, co-founder and CEO of Honor, a disruptive Silicon-Valley start-up that is rapidly modernizing home care, will close the program. Sternberg and Honor, which recently added Dr. Leff and AARP Board Chair Carol Raphael as advisors, have been in the news numerous times this year, most recently announcing a novel partnership with the American Cancer Society.

The d.health Executive Summit 2016 will take place on Wednesday, May 4 at The New York Academy of Sciences, 7 World Trade Center (250 Greenwich St., 40^th Floor), New York, NY. The Summit is co-chaired by two national experts: Abraham (Avi) Seidmann, Ph.D., Professor of Computers & Information Systems, Electronic Commerce, and Operations Management at the Simon Business School and by Ray Dorsey, M.D., Professor of Neurology at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
