SAN CARLOS, Calif., Nov. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sunflower Labs, a Zurich and Silicon Valley-based technology company, today introduced the Sunflower Home Awareness System. Comprised of Sunflower Smart Lights and the Sunflower Flying Camera, the system combines state of the art sensor fusion technologies with autonomous flight and real-time video streaming to create holistic insight into activities around the home and yard. The company is backed by a $2.1mm investment by General Catalyst Partners and angel investment.
Home security systems haven't meaningfully evolved in decades. Relying on perimeter breaches and cameras that are often pointed at all the wrong targets, current solutions can have false alarm rate of over 95%. This leads to local police dispatchers to relegating alarm alerts to the lowest response priority, giving homeowners no more of a sense of security than having no system at all.
"Recent advances in sensor technologies make it possible to have full, proactive awareness of what's happening around your home at all times," said Alex Pachikov, founder and CEO of Sunflower Labs. "What we're building is so much more than basic home security. The Sunflower System has been designed from the start to deliver true peace of mind."
How it Works
The Sunflower System combines terrestrial feedback and aerial observations to create an entirely new awareness-based approach. Sunflower Smart Lights are placed around a property and use sensor fusion technologies to proactively identify footsteps, loud noises, cars arriving, and cross-property movement. Comparing events to a property's normal rhythm of activity, the System alerts homeowners only when something out of the ordinary happens, keeping the false alarms to a minimum.
Alerts are sent to the Sunflower app and the homeowner can choose to dismiss the alert or deploy the Sunflower Flying Camera. The System uses every interaction to learn the normal patterns for you and your home. The Flying Camera autonomously tracks the event across the property, sending live video back to the app.
"At Sunflower, we're solving for new and very interesting problems with some of the latest technologies," said Chris Eheim, founder and CTO. "Sensor fusion, machine learning and autonomous pathfinding are all coming into their own right now and it's been an incredibly engaging experience to marry the three with the Sunflower System."
