Super Human Network and BCG Launch The Longevity Review, a New Annual Benchmark Mapping $21 Billion in Global Longevity Investment
STOCKHOLM, 16 September 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Super Human Network and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) today launched The Longevity Review 2026, the first edition of a new annual benchmark bringing together the research, investment and consumer trends reshaping longevity in a single evidence base.
The Review combines global research and investment data, BCG consumer research across 19 countries, and perspectives from 14 leading experts in longevity science, including Dr. David Sinclair, Prof. Andrea Maier, Dr. Jamie Justice, Dr. Nir Barzilai, Dr. Eric Verdin, Dr. Valter Longo and Dr. Aubrey de Grey.
A booming field facing a credibility challenge
Longevity is moving rapidly from scientific frontier to global industry, but evidence is not always keeping pace with attention and capital. More than $21 billion in disclosed investment has flowed into roughly 1,300 companies, as new products, technologies and claims continue to emerge. The Longevity Review is designed to bring greater clarity to the field, distinguishing established evidence from emerging science and unproven claims, and combining BCG's analytical rigor with perspectives from leading scientists.
The report identifies the defining opportunity as extending not just lifespan but healthy lifespan. Global life expectancy rose from 67 to 73 years between 2000 and 2019, while the years spent in poor health increased from 8.5 to 9.6 years. With the global population aged 60 and over expected to double by 2050, extending healthy and functional years is becoming an increasingly important scientific, economic and societal priority.
"I have spent my career building movements, and longevity is the biggest one I have seen. It is moving from science into culture, and culture moves faster than evidence. That is the risk. People are drowning in advice and starving for validated proof. We built The Longevity Review with BCG to be an accessible reference point that this field has never had. We need to avoid hype and opinion, and instead rely on transparency and scientific facts," said Ash Pournouri, Founder & CEO of Super Human Network.
Awareness is rising but action is not keeping pace
Among the Review's key findings:
Awareness is outpacing action. Even among adults aged 56 and older with pre-existing conditions, only 40% report taking active steps toward healthy aging. Among younger adults without such conditions, the figure is just 27%. The report describes this gap as the longevity paradox, with prevention often postponed during the years when people feel healthiest.
Capital is scaling but remains highly concentrated. Roughly 10% of companies account for around 80% of disclosed deal value, spanning frontier biotechnology, wearables, diagnostics and consumer health infrastructure.
The science of aging is becoming increasingly measurable. Researchers are increasingly working from shared frameworks for aging and measurable biological clocks. Early laboratory research suggests some markers associated with aging may be reset rather than only slowed, although causal reversal of human aging has not been established.
"The longevity field is gaining momentum, but awareness is still outpacing action. The Longevity Review helps leaders separate lasting opportunity from short-term noise and see where the field is truly moving," said Johan Öberg, Managing Director & Senior Partner at BCG.
Future editions of The Longevity Review will examine individual themes in greater depth, including nutrition, sleep, biomarkers, AI and pharmaceuticals, with the ambition of establishing an annual benchmark for the global longevity field.
