Supermodel Petra Nemcova to Represent Happy Hearts Fund and All Hands Volunteers at Cantor Fitzgerald Charity Day
NEW YORK, Sept. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On September 11, the trading floor of Cantor Fitzgerald will be thronged with celebrities making sales calls during the annual Charity Day. Cantor Fitzgerald donates 100% of global revenues from the day to the 40 or so charities represented by the celebrity ambassadors, as well as to dozens of selected charities around the world.
The event was started to commemorate the 658 Cantor Fitzgerald and 61 Eurobrokers employees lost in the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks. To date, Charity Day has raised approximately $113 million to help people in need.
Petra Nemcova is participating in the event to draw attention and support for the work which Happy Hearts Fund and All Hands Volunteers ("All Hands") are doing to reconstruct some of the nearly 32,000 classrooms which were destroyed in the massive earthquakes which shook central Nepal in April and May of this year. A million children have been affected. Rehabilitation of the schools is key not only to enable them to resume their education, but the safe, child-friendly spaces also provide important protection from child trafficking, a common problem in post-disaster situations.
"We cannot stop natural disasters but we can arm ourselves with the knowledge of sustainability. As support fades once first responders leave, it's our organizations that work during the rebuilding process." - Petra Nemcova
The non-profits' collaboration is intended to leverage their resources and capacity in order to maximize their impact in Nepal. Currently, the project is in the planning/permitting stage; construction is slated to begin in November, after the monsoons subside. Both organizations are actively soliciting financial support from corporations, individuals, and foundations for this initiative.
Happy Hearts Fund, Founded in 2006 by Petra Nemcova after surviving the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, rebuilds safe, resilient schools in areas impacted by natural disasters.
All Hands is a disaster response and recovery non-profit organization. Its mission is to address the immediate and long-term needs of communities impacted by natural disasters by engaging and leveraging volunteers, partner organizations, and local communities.
