Largest Online Consignment Retailer Unveils Which U.S. Cities and States are Sticking with Their New Year's Resolution and Getting Healthier in 2017

CHICAGO, March 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Swap.com, the largest online consignment retailer, is reporting on which cities and states seem to be most successful when it comes to achieving their New Year's resolution for a more fit and healthier lifestyle. In fact, experts predict approximately 80 percent of these resolutions fail by mid-February, according to U.S. News. To see how the country was measuring up, Swap.com dug into their customer's shopping behavior to get a glimpse of which cities and states seem to be moving on the right trajectory for achieving their New Year's goals. The Swap.com analysis is based on their customers' purchasing patterns from Nov/Dec 2016 to Jan/Feb 2017.

"Our customers tell us all the time that they often go through changes in their size, and they come to us first so they can replace lots of clothes at once," explained Rich Lesperance, Chief Marketing Officer of Swap.com. "Now that we're about two months into 2017, we thought it would be interesting to analyze changes in the sizes we sell. What we found was striking: a major shift downwards in sizes compared to late 2016."

On a national level, the report showed a significant 12 percent drop in purchases of women's size 18+ and an even bigger 25 percent decrease in purchases of men's sizes 3XL+.

When drilling down to the state-level, residents of New Hampshire topped the list followed by Connecticut and Missouri.

The top 15 states with the biggest decrease in plus sizes sold are:

Connecticut: -31.1%
Missouri: -29.7%
Indiana: -29.5%
Mississippi: -23.5%
Nevada: -18.4%
Wyoming: -16.3%
Louisiana: -16%
Maryland: -14.6%
New York: -14.2%
Rhode Island: -11.3%
Michigan: -10.5%
Florida: -10.4%
South Dakota: -9.4%
Kentucky: -8.3%

Using the same logic, Swap.com also identified the top 15 cities with the biggest decrease in plus sizes:

Louisville, KY: -76.3%
Kansas, MO: -76.2%
Holland, MI: -69.5%

Gainesville, GA: -55.5%
Auburn, IN: -54.1%
