Syncsort Offers TeraSort Challenge to Improve Hadoop Performance

WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Oct. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Syncsort, a global leader in high-performance data integration solutions, today announced that it has introduced the TeraSort Challenge for attendees of Strata Conference + Hadoop World, with prizes to be awarded to those who successfully complete the challenge. Registered participants will receive a sort plug-in and trial version of Syncsort® DMExpress® Hadoop Edition software for testing within their own Hadoop environments to demonstrate the impact of sort optimization on overall cluster performance.

Based on TeraSort benchmark results, DMExpress Hadoop Edition software can dramatically accelerate sort processing in Hadoop. In a recent benchmark test that sorted four terabytes (4TB) of data, DMExpress software increased Hadoop sort performance by 2X. This capability can enable users to process more data within an existing Hadoop cluster, or for public cloud users, realize significant reductions of cloud usage time.

Additionally, DMExpress software can help accelerate and simplify ETL processes, integrating heterogeneous multi-source data as much as 10X faster, and loading data into Hadoop Distributed File Systems (HDFS) up to 6X faster than conventional ETL and Hadoop shell load processes.
